Holidays in Gallicia. November, 2009

November is the month of the magostos, magic tradition and autumn ritual concerning the chestnut.
Until November 11 day of St Martin the Holidays of the Magosto are celebrated in the whole Gallicia, with principal protagonist the chestnuts the wine of the ground and the bonfires to roast them and to defend themselves from the cold.
It is part of the ritual of the holiday the face blackens with the ashes, to jump the bonfires to attract the good luck, and to amuse itself with traditional games, counting legends and to sing popular songs, to finish off with a good hot punch along with the fire. In Ourense the Holiday of Magosto de San Martiño of the 11th is declared of tourist interest.
